Pneumococcal/ Pneumonia Vaccine

The pneumococcal vaccine helps protect against serious illnesses like Pneumonia, Meningitis & Sepsis. It's recommended for people at higher risk of these illnesses, such as babies and adults aged 65 and over.
The vaccine is available for free through your GP if you are:
65 years or older
aged 2 or over and in an at-risk group
The consultation is free if you have a medical card or GP visit card.
How often to get the pneumococcal vaccine?
If you are age 65 years or older, you only need to get the vaccine once
If you are younger than 65 years, you may need to have 2 doses of the vaccine at least 5 years apart.
